The universe is made of stories, not atoms.-Muriel Rukeyser
Mission: JobTalk helps you navigate your career path.
Ever since I was little, I had a habit of asking people lots of questions. My mom still tells me
stories of how I interrogated my babysitters, and I was the go-to person in the family to get juicy information about others.
I even used to fantasize about traveling around the world and talking to people to get their stories and publishing them in a book. But I had no idea people could actually do something like that!
Not much has changed about my nosy nature except that I realized two really important things: 1) I should have studied journalism in college. 2) It’s never too late to pursue that which makes your heart beat faster.
So here we are. I created JobTalk because I wanted to pursue my obsession with finding out about people’s lives in a way that can help you navigate your career. That’s why JobTalk features in-depth interviews with professionals about their career paths. You can find a lot of career advice online, but you can’t find people’s career stories. Reading people’s career stories provides insight and inspiration that goes far beyond what general career advice can do.
Since I’m not immune from wanting to give my opinion about career paths, job searches, and pretty much anything related to figuring out your career, I created Two Cents. Everyone needs a place where she can speak her mind!
The category, eLearning, is a mashup of thoughts and articles on various online learning platforms. Before all the rage started of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) started, I realized that career goers need to find quality information on online courses, not just online courses offered through universities. But the MOOCs have, of course, added another twist in the edonline world, which is surely worthy of coverage.
Entrepreneurship is a topic that I love covering. Even if you don’t plan on becoming an entrepreneur in the strict sense of the word, it’s worth understanding and adopting an entrepreneurial mindset as a job seeker. You’ve got nothing to lose when you think like an entrepreneur.
I’ve recently expanded JobTalk by co-hosting career-related panel events at the Princeton Public Library. All of these events are recorded and shared on JobTalk’s YouTube Channel. And finally, I’m working on creating a podcast series, so stay tuned!
Here’s to finding what makes your heart beat faster!
